About the Exam

​WE HAVE A NEW ONLINE PLATFORM TO TAKE EXAMS. Members Sign in by clicking here. Not a member, click here. ​An account is needed in order to purchase exams, manuals and take part in TNLA's Webinars.
Exams will be based on information contained in the TCLP Manual, TNLA Best of Texas Landscape Guide, plus practical knowledge gained from experience in the industry.  ​Submitted fees are non-refundable.  Also fees are forfeited if the Committee determines that the applicant does not meet the stated qualifications.  Any exception to the fee non-refund policy requires a two-thirds vote of the Committee.  Applicant must make a grade of at least 75% on the General Section of the examination to attain the status of TCLP and also a 70% on the Plant ID and Plant Characteristics sections.
  • TCLP Exam General Section - 200 Questions, 1 1/2 hour to take exam
  • Plant Characteristics Section - 48 Questions, 1 hour to take exam
  • Plant ID Section - 50 Questions, 1 hour to take exam

 Texas Certified Landscape Professional (TCLP)

For individuals in the nursery/landscape industry cultivating a high degree of knowledge and skill in horticulture and landscape development. Requires 16 hours of CEU credits every two years completed before the Certification renewal date. Professional is required to take three sections for this exam. Must take exam 90 days after date of purchase.

TCLP Exam Requirements

Requirements to be eligible for the TCLP exam are as follows:
  • Must have received TCLA certification and current status must be in good standing
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Actively working in the Landscape/Horticulture Industry or Horticulture High School or College Student

Exam Retest

$85 Member | $145 Non-Member
​If an applicant fails any section of the exam he/she may be retested up to two times, within 12 months of the original exam date, on the section(s) failed.  If all retest sections are not passed within the 12-month period, the entire exam must be retaken at full price.

The exam may be harder than you think, be sure to study up by purchasing the TNLA TCLP Study Manual, Click Here (The TCLP Study Manual comes with a digital download of TNLA's Best of Texas Landscape Guide which is a useful study tool for the Plant Characteristics and Plant ID section.)

Renewals

$85 Member | $145 Non-Member
Each certificate holder will be notified sixty days prior to the expiration date that their certification will expire unless an enclosed renewal form is returned to the TNLA office accompanied by the proper renewal fee and proof of required 16 hours of CEUs on or before the expiration date.  Failure to respond will result in revocation of certification.
