Building tomorrow's green industry

Picture
The TNLA Foundation was established in 1992.  A nine-member Board of Trustees plus two staff-appointed positions manage the business of the Foundation.
The main purposes of the Foundation are:
  • To conduct fundraising activities on behalf of and to support the overall purposes of the Foundation.
  • To operate exclusively for the purposes of awarding funds to horticulture/landscape students for their continued education and to award funds for research in horticulture/landscape areas of interest in Texas.

The TNLA Foundation is irrevocably dedicated to and is organized exclusively for charitable purposes.  The Foundation receives contributions and distributes funds for educational and research purposes.

The TNLA Foundation Mission is to advance in the broadest sense the environmentally beneficial use of plants, and the interests of the Green Industry in Texas, through funding education and research.

FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Scholarships:
Since 1966, the Foundation and TAN (now TNLA) have awarded 721 scholarships totaling $1,005,300.
Research Awards:
The following awards have been awarded by the Foundation.
  • Horticultural Research Institute – Gold Circle Level- $30,000 endowment award to establish TNLA Foundation Permanent Endowment Fund to fund industry research through HRI
  • Foundation Grant Awards – $25,000

Five grants were awarded to researchers in Texas who presented proposals that will further the Green Industry’s future success in the state.

Funding comes from individuals and companies making special contributions. No money collected from members of TNLA automatically goes to the Foundation. It is a separate corporation with separate budgets. That’s why donations to the Foundation are so important to the Green Industry.

WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION?

The Green Industry is constantly evolving, thus presenting more opportunities and challenges to those who work in the industry. Some of the changes that are affecting the industry and shaping its future are:
  • Government regulation that removes materials needed for production and maintenance.
  • Decreasing support for agricultural research.
  • Decreasing public support for educational institutions, the source of progress in plant material, pest management, and maintenance strategies.
  • Decreasing number of students who perceive horticulture as a desirable profession.
However, by investing in the future direction of the Green Industry through the TNLA Foundation we can…
  • establish a strong tradition of horticultural philanthropy.
  • build the available pool of research dollars.
  • contribute to the education of students.
  • seek the best and brightest of our students and encourage them in their studies.
