About the Exam

 WE HAVE A NEW ONLINE PLATFORM TO TAKE EXAMS. Members Sign in by clicking here. Not a member, click here. ​An account is needed in order to purchase exams, manuals and take part in TNLA's Webinars.
Applicant must pass all sections of the certification exam with a grade of 70 percent.  Exams will be based on information contained in the TCNP Manual, TNLA Best of Texas Landscape Guide, plus practical knowledge gained from experience in the industry. 

  • Culture I - 35 Questions, 45 minutes to take exam
  • Culture II - 100 Questions, 1 1/2 hour to take exam
  • Merchandising - 30 Questions, 45 minutes to take exam
  • Landscape Design Part 1 - 50 Questions, 1 hour to take exam
  • Landscape Design Part 2 - 38 Questions, 45 minutes to take exam
  • Plant ID - 50 Questions, 1 hour to take exam
  • Plant Characteristics - 48 Questions, 1 hour to take exam

 Texas Certified Nursery Professional (TCNP)

For individuals in the nursery/landscape industry that possesses a high degree of knowledge and skill in horticulture. Becoming a TCNP adds credibility and prestige and increases your value as an employee. Requires 8 hours of CEU credits every two years completed before the Certification renewal date. The deadline to take the exam is 90 days after purchase.

TCNP Exam Requirements

Requirements to be eligible for the TCNP exam are as follows:
  • Actively working in the landscape/horticulture industry or horticulture High School or College Student
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older

Exam Retest

$85 Member | $145 Non-Member
​If an applicant fails any section of the exam he/she may be retested up to two times, within 12 months of the original exam date, on the section(s) failed.  If all retest sections are not passed within the 12-month period, the entire exam must be retaken at full price.

The exam may be harder than you think, be sure to study up by purchasing the TNLA TCNP Study Manual, Click Here. ​(The TCNP Study Manual comes with a digital download of TNLA's Best of Texas Landscape Guide which is a useful study tool for the Plant Characteristics and Plant ID exam sections.)

Renewals

$85 Member | $145 Non-Member
Each certificate holder will be notified sixty days prior to the expiration date that their certification will expire unless an enclosed renewal form is returned to the TNLA office accompanied by the proper renewal fee and proof of required 8 hours of CEUs on or before the expiration date.  Failure to respond will result in revocation of certification.
