TNLA Foundation Scholarship

TNLA Foundation Scholarship

The importance of educating students to assume leadership and ownership positions in agriculture/horticulture over the coming decades is critical. The love of the land and the care of it are essential to future of Texas.
TNLA Foundation Scholarship Application

Goals:
The Texas Nursery & Landscape Association Foundation (Foundation) has been awarding scholarships to students who are interested in the Green Industry for over 23 years.  The Association was responsible for this program 26 years prior to that date.

The importance of educating students to assume leadership and ownership positions in agriculture/horticulture over the coming decades is critical.  The love of the land and the care of it are essential to Texas future.  Grow Texas goals are very similar to the Foundation goals.
Why:
The Foundation has worked hard to develop a scholarship program that sustains itself, gives new donors a meaningful way to give and cultivates applicants and encourages recipients to identify with the industry of which they are interested.

The Foundation believes in rewarding youth for hard work and what they would like to give to the industry.  We feel that the management of the Grow Texas scholarships would allow a broader reach into the high school, community colleges, universities, FFA, etc. where tomorrow’s leaders gather.  Our current relationships will be enriched to the benefit of both of our programs, plus there may be a subtle introduction for some to the options of agriculture careers in the Green Industry.

Scholarships Available
Named Scholarship
($1,000 per year for three years total commitment. Scholarship carries the name of your choice.)

Endowments are established in the amount of $10,000 or more and will never go below the original contribution. The donor designates the scholarship name. The endowment corpus may increase by receiving future designated contributions. The endowment will be invested in accordance with the Foundation investment policy.

Scholarships are awarded annually when the interest generated by the endowment plus any additional donations reach a level to fully fund the scholarship. The Foundation trustees are responsible for selecting scholarship recipients.

The Foundation receives contributions and distributes funds for educational purposes. Funding comes from individuals and companies making special contributions.

The Green Industry is constantly evolving, thus presenting more opportunities and challenges to those who work in the industry. By investing in the future direction of the Green Industry through the TNLA Foundation we can establish a strong tradition of horticultural philanthropy, contribute to the education of students, seek the best and brightest of our students, and encourage them in their studies.

How is the Foundation Funded?
The TNLA Foundation is irrevocably dedicated to and is organized exclusively for charitable purposes. The Foundation receives contributions and distributes funds for educational and
research purposes.

Funding comes from individuals and companies making special contributions. No money collected from members of TNLA automatically goes to the Foundation. It is a separate corporation with separate budgets. That’s why donations to the Foundation are so important to the Green Industry.

Why should you support The Foundation?
The Green Industry is constantly evolving, thus presenting more opportunities and challenges to those who work in the industry. Some of the changes that are affecting the industry and shaping its future are:
• Government regulation that removes materials needed for production and maintenance.
• Decreasing support for agricultural research.
• Decreasing public support for educational institutions, the source of progress in plant material, pest management, and maintenance strategies.
• Decreasing number of students who perceive horticulture as a desirable profession.

However, by investing in the future direction of the Green Industry through the TNLA Education and Research Foundation we can…
• establish a strong tradition of horticultural philanthropy.
• build the available pool of research dollars.
• contribute to the education of students.
• seek the best and brightest of our students and encourage them in their studies.
